At Circus Roncalli in Germany, an elephant appears in the center ring and stands on its back legs to greet the audience. But this is no ordinary elephant—it’s a hologram, a 3-D image made of light beams.

Recently, Circus Roncalli decided to stop having live animals as part of its show. The decision was in response to concerns about the well-being of circus animals. Instead, the act uses special laser projectors that create realistic images of animals made entirely out of light. Spectators gaze at horses, elephants, and even giant goldfish!
