Farts can be funny. But not when they heat up the planet!
When animals like sheep or cows burp or pass gas, they release a greenhouse gas called methane. This gas traps heat in Earth’s atmosphere. That warms the planet. Almost one-fifth of all greenhouse gases is produced this way.
Suzanne Rowe is a biologist in New Zealand. She breeds sheep that produce less methane. “We hope more farmers will want to raise sheep like these,” she says.
