Martin Luther King Jr. is one of America’s most celebrated leaders. He devoted his life to changing laws that were unfair to African-Americans and others.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of King’s death. A gunman assassinated King in April 1968 while he was visiting Memphis, Tennessee. The civil rights leader was helping sanitation workers protest low pay and poor working conditions.
To honor King’s memory, many people and organizations advocate for peace and civil rights, just as he did. For example, the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis has been celebrating King’s legacy with service events for the past year.
