The latest movie in the Harry Potter wizarding universe focuses on magical creatures.

This November, Harry Potter fans celebrated the arrival of the new wizarding movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film takes place nearly 70 years before Harry’s time, in 1920s New York City. It’s based on the magical universe created by author J. K. Rowling in her seven-book Harry Potter series.

The movie centers on a new character, Newt Scamander, a famous “magizoologist” who works at the Ministry of Magic. “Newt is documenting and collecting endangered magical beasts,” explains David Heyman, the movie’s producer. But Scamander faces challenges he wasn’t expecting when magical creatures run wild in New York.
