Most popsicles or fudge bars cost a couple of dollars. But James Karagiannis “sells” these treats for answers to math, sports, or geography questions.
Every summer for the past nine years, Karagiannis, has ridden around Buffalo, New York selling ice cream for $1 or for free, with the answer to a question as payment. His nickname is “James the Ice Cream-cycle Dude.”
As Karagiannis’s efforts grew, he realized he could no longer afford to give out so much free ice cream. He asked his community to help through donations.
“I posted the idea on my Facebook page, and it went viral,” says Karagiannis. “We now have enough donations to ensure every kid in Buffalo will be able to have a free ice cream at least once a summer for the next three years. How cool is that?”
